World's Fairs

A guide to the Research Center's collections on world's fairs held in Chicago

Woman's World Fair

The Woman's World's Fair of 1925 was held from April 18-25 and organized solely by women. Ruth Hannah McCormick and Helen Bennett came up with the idea for a fair to highlight women's accomplishments and ideas in the arts, science, industry, and literature. Several corporations and newspapers participated in the fair as exhibitors and provided young women at the fair with information on obtaining careers. The fair was held annually until 1928 due to the 1925 fair's success in in attendance and fundraising. The Chicago History Museum has a limited number of items in the collection about the fair.
